Kathmandu— Doctors from across the Kathmandu Valley have taken to the streets today, Thursday, with a plan to encircle the Ministry of Health and Population. The protest, led by the Nepal Medical Association and joined by residential doctors, began at Maitighar. However, police stopped them and did not allow them to proceed toward the ministry.
Following the protest, Health and Population Minister Hon. Pradip Paudel called the doctors for a discussion. Representatives of the Nepal Medical Association, along with the protesting residential doctors, have now reached the ministry for discussions.
The doctors are protesting the government’s failure to enforce its own decision to provide residential doctors with allowances equivalent to the eighth level of government service. They claim that the government has not compelled private medical colleges to implement the decision.
