Minister Paudel Warns Private Medical Colleges: Implement Allowance Decision or Face Consequences

Kathmandu— Minister for Health and Population, Hon. Pradip Paudel, has issued a stern warning to private medical colleges, stating that no ministry-related work will move forward unless the decision to provide living allowances to residential doctors is implemented immediately.

During a discussion held at the Ministry of Health and Population with protesting doctors, Minister Paudel emphasized that private colleges must comply with the decision made by the Medical Education Commission. The commission had ruled that residential doctors at private institutions should receive an allowance equivalent to that of government-run colleges, which amounts to NPR 48,000 per month.

“The decisions made by the commission are mandatory. If private institutions refuse to comply, all pending or upcoming tasks related to the ministry will be halted,” Minister Paudel stated.

He also urged college operators not to link the issue of allowances with student fees or seat quotas, stressing that these are separate matters. The minister made it clear that discussions on any other concerns raised by private institutions will only proceed once the allowance decision is enforced.
