Kathmandu— Medical reform activist Dr. Govinda KC has strongly opposed the proposal to increase MBBS and BDS seats in Nepal.
Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Dr. KC criticized the recent move by the Medical Education Commission, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, which is preparing to increase the number of seats for medical education programs. He stated that even a single seat should not be added beyond the current number.
Dr. KC, who has been involved in providing medical care to victims of the Myanmar earthquake, said the decision to increase MBBS seats goes against the agreements made in the past and undermines the quality and accessibility of medical education. He also called for the immediate implementation of previous agreements and demanded justice for resident doctors working in private medical colleges who are facing labor exploitation.
Warning the government, Dr. KC stated that if his demands are not addressed promptly, he will be compelled to launch a hunger strike once again.
