Kathmandu—Sherpa Kyidug America has contributed over USD 47,000 to support the humanitarian campaign led by renowned eye surgeon Dr. Sanduk Ruit. The funds, collected from members of the Kyidug, were handed over to Dr. Ruit with honor during a formal event.

Lakpa Rinjee Sherpa, coordinator of the Sherpa Kyidug Advisory Committee, stated that the support was provided in recognition of Dr. Ruit’s globally acclaimed contributions in the field of eye care. Additionally, USD 5,007 collected by the Himalayan Hope Network was also transferred to Dr. Ruit through Sherpa Kyidug.

During the event, volunteers expressed their commitment to further engage in fundraising efforts to support Dr. Ruit’s mission. Dr. Ruit, currently on a visit to the U.S., shared that his trip aims to promote Nepal’s successful medical practices and the model of vision restoration in partnership with top global institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, Brown, and Bascom Palmer.

He also revealed a long-term plan to establish a state-of-the-art intraocular lens manufacturing plant in Nepal, with the goal of exporting globally. Profits from the initiative would be used to provide free eye treatment to economically disadvantaged communities.

Dr. Ruit mentioned that an estimated USD 8 million is needed for this plan, out of which USD 3 million has already been raised. He emphasized the need for active participation from the Nepali community to raise the remaining USD 5 million.
