Budget 2082/83 Announces NPR 10 Billion for Health Insurance Program

Kathmandu—The government of Nepal has announced a significant overhaul of the national health insurance system, allocating NPR 10 billion for the Health Insurance Board in the fiscal year 2082/83.

Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel outlined plans to restructure the health insurance scheme to enhance its effectiveness and expand its reach. The initiative includes the introduction of distinct benefit packages tailored to different groups of insured individuals, aiming to provide more customized healthcare services. A key component of the reform is the integration of existing social security programs into the health insurance framework, streamlining services and eliminating redundancies. Additionally, outstanding payments will undergo third-party audits to ensure transparency and accountability.
