PM Oli: Doctors Are Greater Than Gods

Kathmandu—Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized that the importance of the medical sector is directly linked to human longevity and has urged health workers to remain vigilant.

Speaking at the inauguration of the fifth general convention of the National Health Workers’ Federation Nepal, he stressed that health workers, being citizens themselves, should also contribute to national responsibilities. He expressed his deep respect for the medical profession.

He said, “I don’t mean to offend those who believe in God, but I’ve seen doctors and nurses save lives in the most difficult situations in ways that seem magical. That’s why I say, Doctors are greater than the gods.”

Highlighting the importance of prevention over cure, PM Oli noted that while treatment is essential, efforts should first focus on preventing illness. He urged the health sector to embrace a mindset of providing quality care affordably and accessibly.

Recalling his own health journey, Oli remarked that if medical science hadn’t advanced to its current stage or if hospitals were not available, he would already be observing his 20th death anniversary. “Today, the health sector has achieved remarkable progress,” he said. “We must move beyond treatment to prevention and awareness. I hope this federation can play a meaningful role.”
