Government to Add 12,000 Skilled Health Workers in Five Years: Health Minister Paudel

Kathmandu— Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel announced that the government has initiated a process to recruit 2,500 skilled health professionals each year, aiming to add a total of 12,000 personnel within the next five years.

Speaking during a parliamentary session on Monday in response to queries regarding his ministry’s annual budget, Minister Paudel stated that this year’s proposal to recruit around 2,500 new health workers will soon be presented to the Council of Ministers. Among them, he said, 700 doctors and 900 nurses are expected to be recruited through the Public Service Commission.

The minister informed the House that the organizational and management (O&M) survey of the health sector has been completed, and the process to increase human resources is now in its final stage.

Highlighting budget provisions, Minister Paudel noted that specialized services, including intensive burn care, heart and kidney transplants, and cancer treatment, will be made available through federal hospitals and health science academies across all seven provinces.

He informed that health services related to cervical cancer, breast cancer, and reproductive health issues have been allocated in a way that they will be implemented across all local levels. Additionally, basic hospitals that have already been constructed will begin operations from the start of Shrawan, with the federal government deploying doctors and medical equipment in coordination with all three tiers of government.

Minister Paudel also stated that strategic mapping is underway to ensure timely completion of hospitals currently under construction and to begin work at local levels where construction has yet to start.
