Kathmandu— Health and Population Minister Pradip Paudel has engaged with Nepalese health policymakers, intellectuals, and medical students active in Thailand to explore possible improvements in Nepal’s health sector based on Thailand’s experience.
Minister Paudel, who arrived in Bangkok to participate in the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Population Policy, initiated discussions with the Nepalese community there. Organized by the Nepalese Embassy in Bangkok, the event provided a platform for Minister Paudel to collect suggestions on Thailand’s health care system, medical education, and health insurance practices.
Highlighting the ongoing efforts by the ministry to enhance and expand health care services and implement policy reforms in health insurance, Minister Paudel expressed confidence that insights gained from Nepalese professionals familiar with both countries’ contexts would be valuable for future progress. “We are committed to improving existing resources to deliver better services to our citizens. Your experiences can be highly beneficial for us,” he said.
Nepalese Ambassador to Thailand Dhanprasad Oli noted that Nepalese working in medical education, practice, policymaking, and related businesses in Thailand have the potential to foster greater cooperation and open new avenues for collaboration through knowledge exchange.
During the interaction, Nepalese involved in health service application development shared their readiness to extend their services to Nepal. Experts in health insurance also briefed attendees on Thailand’s practices.
Minister Paudel is expected to deliver a speech and participate in discussions on behalf of Nepal at the UN ministerial meeting. His secretariat further confirmed that he will engage with the non-resident Nepalese community during his visit.
