China Expands Its Global Role as U.S. Cuts Back, Says Report

A new U.S. Senate report says that while the United States has reduced its international aid and diplomatic presence in recent years, China has been increasing its global influence.

The report explains that the U.S. government has cut budgets and staff from key departments like the State Department and USAID. This has weakened America’s ability to support health, education, and development programs in many countries.

At the same time, China has stepped in to fill that gap.

In Uganda, China donated $2 million worth of rice.

In Zambia, it sent 500,000 HIV test kits.

In Cambodia, China signed 37 agreements to support health, energy, and education.

In Vietnam, it is working to improve railway connectivity.

In Malaysia, China is expanding technical cooperation.

In Latin America, China has offered $9 billion in loans and infrastructure projects.

The report warns that if the U.S. doesn’t reinvest in diplomacy and foreign aid, it could lose its global leadership role—and millions of people could be affected, especially in health programs. It also estimates that these cuts could lead to 1.4 million more deaths by 2030 in low-income countries.
