Kathmandu – Following the appointment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the Gen-Z movement has introduced a bold experiment in governance: ministers will be selected through open and transparent online voting, using platforms like Discord.
Under this process, the public will propose names of eligible candidates. These names will then be reviewed based on background, expertise, and independence from political parties. According to movement leader Sudan Gurung, only those with a clean image, a non-partisan identity, and the ability to address people’s problems will make it to the final voting round.
For each ministry, shortlisted candidates will be put to a public vote, and the individual securing the highest number of votes will be appointed as minister. For example, if five candidates are nominated for Health Minister, the one with the maximum votes will lead the ministry.
Familiar Names in Discussion
Several well-known medical professionals are being considered as potential candidates for the position of Health Minister. Among them are Dr. Sanduk Ruit, Dr. Arjun Karki, Dr. Jagdish Prasad Agrawal, Dr. Govinda KC, Dr. Bhagwan Koirala, and Dr. Bhola Rijal.
However, Gen-Z activists are leaning toward younger professionals—those under 50, unaffiliated with political parties, and with proven experience in health and public health. Their priority is a capable and energetic leader who understands the sector and is ready to take bold steps.
Prime Minister’s Commitment
Prime Minister Karki has pledged to honor the expectations of Gen-Z. In her discussions with their representatives, she said, “I will build a country where the youth are at the center of governance.” She stated that she would formally take office only after the cabinet is fully formed.
Before this, Karki had visited injured protesters and inspected damages at the Maharajgunj Police Station caused during recent demonstrations, signaling her commitment to listening to citizens and standing with the movement.
