Kathmandu— It has been a month since the formation of the new interim government following the catastrophic Gen-Z protests that claimed several lives and caused massive damage to infrastructure. While gradual signs of improvement are beginning to show, the Council of Ministers has yet to be finalized.
In particular, the appointment of the new health minister remains undecided. Several rounds of discussions have taken place, but the final name has not been confirmed. According to sources, two candidates are currently under consideration. This delay has raised concern among staff at the Ministry of Health and Population, who remain hopeful that the new cabinet under Prime Minister Sushila Karki will be inclusive and effective.
After the fire incident on Bhadra 24, the ministry has relocated to a new building, where a dedicated office has been prepared for the incoming health minister. However, the chair in that office still sits empty, awaiting its occupant. As per reports, discussions at Baluwatar are ongoing, and a decision is expected soon. Meanwhile, ministry staff are eager for a new minister to take charge, especially with the rising risks of dengue and other communicable diseases following the recent torrential rains and flooding.
