Health Ministry Set to Move Inside Singha Durbar: Prefab Buildings Under Construction

Kathmandu – The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), currently operating from the Nepal Health Research Council’s new building, is preparing to shift inside the Singha Durbar within the next few weeks.

According to ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, the government has granted approval for the ministry to use the southwestern section of Singha Durbar, where the Nepal Army’s Narsingh Dal Battalion was previously located. The area lies just behind the new Supreme Court building under construction and directly opposite Baber Mahal Revisited, a few meters ahead of Annapurna Neuro Hospital when approaching from Maitighar toward the southern gate of Singha Durbar.

Once the ministry relocates, the internal gate leading into the Narsingh Dal area will be permanently closed, meaning ministry staff and service seekers will need to use the southern or other official gates for entry.

Dr. Budhathoki confirmed that after the battalion’s relocation near the Office of the Prime Minister, the vacant land and structures have been designated for the Health Ministry’s use. Prefabricated office buildings are being constructed at the site with financial and technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO).

“There are some existing army buildings that require maintenance, while six new prefabricated buildings suitable for ministry operations are being built with WHO’s assistance,” said Dr. Budhathoki.

The ministry’s previous headquarters on Ramshah Path was destroyed during the Gen-Z protests on Bhadra 24, when fires engulfed several government buildings, including Singha Durbar and the Parliament premises.

With construction progressing rapidly, the Health Ministry is expected to officially move into the new Singha Durbar premises by the first week of Mangsir, Dr. Budhathoki confirmed.
