National Federation of Health Workers Urges Prime Minister to Provide Low-Interest Loans for Health Education Students

Kathmandu – On June 2, 2025, the National Federation of Health Workers met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to advocate for low-interest loans for students pursuing health education. The newly elected central committee members presented eight key issues, emphasizing the need to alleviate financial burdens on medical students through affordable financing options.

Federation President Dr. Bikash Gauchan highlighted the federation’s ongoing efforts to improve rural healthcare services and outlined their proposals to the Prime Minister. In response, Prime Minister Oli expressed agreement with the federation’s perspectives, acknowledging that such policies would enhance both medical services and education accessibility. He emphasized that these initiatives would benefit not only the personal development of medical professionals but also serve the nation’s interests.

During the meeting, the federation’s General Secretary, Dr. Samrat Parajuli, commended the Prime Minister’s stance on ensuring that resident doctors in private medical colleges receive allowances equivalent to those of eighth-level medical officers. Prime Minister Oli reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing this policy, recognizing resident doctors as full-time professionals deserving fair compensation. He reiterated the government’s dedication to upholding the commission’s decisions regarding this matter.

The delegation also included former Vice-Chancellor of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), Dr. Mangal Rawal, and former federation president Dr. Jageshwor Gautam.
